Below are newspaper reports and cuttings

from Sam's life as a fisherman and artist

This 8.5 stone (119 pound) Sturgeon was caught in the shell-fish

nets of the St Ives fishing boat ‘Girl Sharon’ on 1st May 1978.

It was landed by John Harding assisted by the boat’s owners

Sam and Eddy Bassett and crew member Raymond Stevens.

This was only the third Sturgeon to be caught in local waters

since the war and was sold for £70 in Newlyn Fish Market
